..........sugar cane growers of U.P. are in for trouble again this year. They have started agitation in Delhi with the help of a few politicians. I think nothing would come out of this agitation. Except this would help in furtherance of the cause of these politicians. The West and the East U.P. are burning because of poor support price of the sugar cane. Sugar Cane growers are finding it exremely difficult to see the light of the day.

I suggest let them seriously consider to grow alternative crops which would give them better prices. It’s time to be smart farmers. Gone are the days when traditional farming helped in running the family needs. Innovation has to be applied in real sense.

Farmers it's change over time to new crops....

I saw one article few days back in which it was informed that the farmers of Punjab and U.P. are finding banana as more lucrative as compaired to traditional farming. Lot of farmers are considering to switch over.

Think again if this strategy can bebifit you guys........

'Uttar Pradesh also suffers from frequent power cuts, limiting the possibility of pumping groundwater to fields'

Pumping groundwater lowers the water table, aggrevating drought. Continued pumping of groundwater continues the cycle. Eventually, the residents of the earth are going to have to live within the limits of what the earth can support sustainably. Overdrawing the resources will make it worse when reality comes due.

The whole problem is the system... we are paying about Rs. 45 per kg of sugar while sugarcane farmers are in deep loss... where is all the money going? Of course, middlemen are eating all away all the cream...

This is the worst part that both consumers and the farmers suffer while, middlemen send their children to study abroad on our money. That's ridiculous.

Agriculture should become industry!

Change is law of life.

The crop considered once as commercial has become a common crop. Sometimes some crops are valued high because of market demand or value addition.

Farmers should consider themselves as shrewd businessmen and do produce what are considered sophisticated products.

I shall suggest them to grow some cut flowers, herbal plants for domestic and export needs and some fast growing timber trees too. You will get more suggestions from horticultural and forest departments.

Keep a watchful eye on the consumer needs and change over to newer production. I am not telling about cultivation. But it is about production to meet the sophisticated market needs. it is sure you will get more.

Again, change is law of life for every one. Agriculture should be considered as consumer industry.

I understand from HT report that DMK is intending to extend the support to the agiatation of Sugar Cane Growers. What a situation...
I strongly suggest that what has been said above that farming is no longer peasentry but industry. Only those will survive who will produce what can sell at premium in the market. Market economy will be the driving force. For a few prodcuts, you might have to create demand.....

Whta happened at Jantar Manatr can not be appreciated, but when in crowd people do have trends to be berseck. Leaders of farming community are well aware of the fact. But what they can do? Any Govt. bends only when forced to...If Rahul would have interfered a day before, probably things would have not come to such a sorry pass. But how leaders and general public will know that it was done by one man Rahul. Any way Govt.’s willingness to reconsider the ordinance is welcome move.
